-
Code:D00005T
Ammouliani is a small yet extraordinary island, home to some of the most beautiful, peaceful, and sheltered bays in the Aegean Sea. Its coastline is lined with secluded beaches accessible only from the water, while crystal-clear lagoons and white sandy shores create the feeling of a distant tropical paradise.
Located only about 430 kilometers from Sofia, Ammouliani is close enough to reach comfortably, yet far enough to feel like a completely different world—peaceful, pristine, and detached from everyday life.
This is a four-day event, but if you do not have enough time, you are welcome to join us one day later.

The name Ammouliani literally means "fine sand"—and for good reason. Its coastline is scattered with dozens of beaches, each with its own character, yet all sharing one common feature: soft, golden sand as fine as flour, gently blending into crystal-clear turquoise waters. During our journey, we will reach most of these beaches by kayak, experiencing them from a perspective that very few people ever do—directly from the sea.
The island's breathtaking wild beaches are its hidden treasure, while the peace and tranquility found here are guaranteed.
Our entire adventure takes place on the island itself. We will stay at Alykes Camping, one of the finest campsites on Ammouliani, located directly on Alykes Beach, famous for its fine sand and gently sloping shoreline. It is the perfect base for exploring the island—close to the rocky passages, hidden beaches, and some of the best snorkeling locations in the area.
Ammouliani is unlike most Greek islands:
small yet remarkably diverse; peaceful yet full of hidden places; easy to reach, yet still untouched by mass tourism.
The landscapes combine the characteristic Aegean granite formations, fine sandy beaches, shallow crystal-clear bays, and vast underwater rock shelves—a true paradise for lovers of the underwater world.
Ammouliani is not simply a place to visit—it is a place to experience.
And every bay we paddle through will add another unforgettable chapter to this remarkable four-day adventure.
Program:
Arrival on Ammouliani Island and Your First Taste of the Sea Adventure
We meet at 00:30 in front of Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia, and at 01:00 we depart for Ammouliani.
Our first stop is in the Kresna area – time for pastries, supplies, and water before continuing towards Tripiti.
At sunrise, we arrive at the port of Tripiti and board the first ferry to Ammouliani. About 30 minutes later, we arrive on the island, where a relaxed breakfast and aromatic coffee await us near the harbor. Here we will also buy fresh fish for the evening barbecue.
We check in at Alykes Camping, located directly on the famous Alykes Beach – one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island. Together, we unload the equipment, leave the kayaks on the beach, set up our camp, and after a short break continue with the safety briefing, introductory training, and our first sunset kayak trip.
In the evening, we return to the campsite for dinner and relaxation. We will grill the fresh fish on the barbecue, and the evening will end with the peaceful atmosphere of the beach, the gentle sea breeze, and quiet conversations beneath the stars—the first true moment when we begin to feel the spirit of Ammouliani.
This is an introductory day—a chance for everyone to become familiar with the kayak, the movement of the sea, and their own abilities.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 8 km.
Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4.
Searching for the Hidden Beaches
This is the day when the participants who have chosen the three-day adventure join our group. To take part in the full program, they must arrive at the campsite no later than 09:30, attend the safety briefing, and receive their equipment.
Today we continue exploring the beaches of Ammouliani, paddling to the right of the campsite. Along the route, we will stop at several sandy beaches, including one with a small beach café, perfect for a short refreshment break. The paddling will be relaxed, with several stops at secluded and unspoiled beaches. Throughout the day, we will focus on swimming, snorkeling, and further developing our sea kayaking skills.
In the evening, everyone may choose whether to have dinner at the campsite or join the group at the campsite tavern, renowned for its excellent cuisine and welcoming atmosphere.
Today's route covers approximately 14 km and serves as preparation for the highlight of our adventure: the full circumnavigation of Ammouliani Island.

Circumnavigating Ammouliani Island
After breakfast, we set off on the long-awaited circumnavigation of Ammouliani Island. Following its wave-shaped coastline, we gradually discover a series of sandy bays, hidden coves, and remarkable rock formations. Our first stop is at one of the sandy beaches to the left of the campsite—a perfect place to relax briefly and prepare for the day ahead.
Our second stop is the lunch break near the ferry port, where several traditional taverns and cafés are located. Here we will have time to enjoy lunch and rest before continuing our journey around the island.
In the afternoon, we paddle towards one of the island's largest wild beaches—Faka Beach. Here we take a longer break for swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying the crystal-clear waters.
Towards the end of the day, we complete the circumnavigation and return to the campsite for a well-earned rest.
In the evening, everyone has a choice—either stay at the campsite for a relaxed dinner or join the group for an organized transfer by minibus to the center of Ammouliani, where we will enjoy dinner at a traditional tavern.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 17 km.
Difficulty level according to distance: 3 out of 4.
We gather by the kayaks at 09:30. This is our final day and is dedicated to a short, focused paddling session and practical training in the bay of Alykes Beach. We remain close to the shoreline while continuing to develop the most important sea kayaking skills.
Today's training includes
Kayak fundamentals and control
✅ proper entry and exit from a kayak at the shore and in shallow water;
✅ efficient forward and backward paddling with correct body position;
✅ stopping techniques and controlled speed reduction;
✅ course correction and changing direction.
Maneuvering and stability
✅ sideways paddling (draw stroke);
✅ maintaining stability using low brace and high brace techniques;
✅ basic techniques for preventing capsizing.
Rescue techniques
✅ self-rescue – re-entering the kayak after capsizing;
✅ assisted rescue – helping another kayaker.
The training is conducted mainly in single sea kayaks, allowing every technique to be practiced realistically, with proper dynamics and maximum safety.
Those who prefer not to participate in the practical exercises may observe from a kayak or remain on the beach.
Packing up and departure
At 11:30 we return to the campsite. Together we clean the equipment, organize the gear, wash the kayaks, and load them onto the trailers.
Around 15:30 we board the ferry. We will make a short stop in Ierissos for gyros before continuing our journey back to Bulgaria.
We leave Ammouliani with the quiet feeling that the sea has left its mark on each of us—a memory that will stay with us long after the waves have disappeared beyond the horizon.

Paddling distance for the day: short training sessions in the bay.
