The Amuliani Adventure, in search of secret beaches - 4 days with Kayak JULY 2026
-
Code:D00284T
Ammouliani is a small yet extraordinary island, preserving some of the most beautiful, calm, and well-protected bays in the Aegean Sea. Along its entire coastline, secluded beaches accessible only by water alternate, while the crystal-clear lagoons and white sands create the feeling of distant tropical shores.
Located just about 430 kilometers from Sofia, Ammouliani is close enough to reach without fatigue, yet far enough to feel like a separate world – peaceful, clean, and detached from everyday dynamics.
The event lasts four days, but if you do not have enough time, you can join us one day later.
Over the course of four days, we will explore the island like true explorers – reaching hidden shores, passing through narrow rocky corridors, entering turquoise bays, and discovering places that do not even appear on tourist maps.

The name of the island Ammouliani means “fine sand” – and this is no coincidence. Dozens of beaches are scattered along its shores, each with its own character, yet all connected by one common feature: golden, flour-fine sand that gently blends into turquoise waters. We will reach most of these beaches by water, seeing them the way only a few ever do – from the front line, directly from the sea.
The incredibly beautiful and wild beaches are its hidden charm, while silence and tranquility here are guaranteed.
Our adventure will take place entirely on the island. We will stay at Alykes Camping – one of the best campsites on Ammouliani, located directly on Alykes Beach, famous for its fine sand and gentle micro-relief. This is the perfect base for exploring the island – close to rocky corridors, small wild beaches, and the most beautiful snorkeling spots.
Ammouliani is unusual for a Greek island:
small yet rich in terrain; calm yet full of hidden places; easy to reach, yet still untouched by mass tourism.
The landscapes here combine characteristic Aegean granite, fine sandy stretches, shallow bays with crystal-clear bottoms, and massive underwater rock slabs – a true paradise for lovers of the underwater world.
Ammouliani is not a place that is simply visited – it is experienced.
And every bay we pass through will add a new image to this unforgettable four-day adventure.
Program:
Arrival on Ammouliani Island and first contact with the sea adventure
The meeting point is at 00:30 in front of Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia, and at 01:00 we depart towards Ammouliani.
Our first stop is in the Kresna area – time for pastries, food supplies, and water before continuing towards Tripiti.
At dawn we arrive at the port of Tripiti and catch the first ferry to Ammouliani. After about 30 minutes we dock on the island, where a relaxed breakfast and aromatic coffee await us near the port. Here we will also buy fresh fish for the evening barbecue.
We settle in at Alykes Camping, located on the famous Alykes Beach – one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the island. Together we unload the equipment, place the kayaks on the beach, organize the camp, and after a short break we continue with a briefing, training, and our first kayak paddle until sunset.
In the evening we return to the campsite for dinner and relaxation. Fresh fish will be grilled on the barbecue, and the night will end in the atmosphere of the quiet beach, the sea breeze, and calm conversations under the stars – the first true moment when we feel the spirit of Ammouliani.
This is an introductory day – time for everyone to get used to the kayak, the movement of the sea, and their own abilities.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 8 km.
Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4.
Searching for the hidden beaches
This is the day when the group that has chosen the three-day adventure will join us. In order to participate fully, they must arrive at the campsite no later than 09:30, attend the briefing, and receive their equipment.
Today we continue exploring the beaches of Ammouliani, heading to the right from the campsite. Along the route we will stop at several sandy beaches, including one with a small beach bar suitable for a short refreshment break. The paddling will be relaxed, with several pauses on wild and secluded shores. The focus of the day will be on swimming, snorkeling, and improving paddling technique.
In the evening, everyone can choose whether to dine at the campsite or join the group for dinner at the campsite tavern, known for its exceptionally delicious food and cozy atmosphere.
The paddling distance on this day is around 14 km and serves as preparation for the crown of our event: the full circumnavigation of Ammouliani Island.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 14 km.
Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4.
The circumnavigation of Ammouliani
After breakfast, we set off on the long-awaited circumnavigation of Ammouliani Island. We follow its distinctive coastline, shaped by the waves, gradually discovering a variety of sandy bays and rocky formations. Our first break is on one of the sandy beaches to the left of the campsite – an ideal place for a short rest and preparation for the day ahead.
The second stop is a lunch break in the area of the ferry port, where several taverns and cafés are located. Here we will have time for lunch and rest before continuing the circumnavigation.
In the afternoon, we paddle toward one of the widest wild beaches on the island – Faka Beach. There we will take a longer break for beach time, swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying the crystal-clear water.
Towards the end of the day, we complete the circumnavigation and head back to the campsite for some well-deserved rest.
In the evening, everyone has a choice – to stay at the campsite for a quiet dinner or to join the group for an organized transfer by vans to the center of Ammouliani and dinner at a traditional tavern.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 17 km.
Difficulty level according to distance: 3 out of 4.
We meet at 09:30 by the kayaks. This is our final day and it is dedicated to short, focused paddling sessions and practical training in the bay of Alykes Beach. We stay close to the bay, where we continue to build on the most important sea kayaking techniques.
Today’s training includes
Kayak basics and control
✅ proper entry into and exit from the kayak at the shore and in shallow water;
✅ efficient forward and backward paddling with correct body positioning;
✅ stopping techniques and controlled speed reduction;
✅ course correction and directional changes.
Maneuvering and stability
✅ sideways paddling (draw stroke);
✅ maintaining stability using low brace and high brace;
✅ basic techniques for preventing capsizing.
Rescue techniques
✅ self-rescue – re-entering the kayak after capsizing;
✅ assisted rescue – teamwork between two kayakers.
The training is conducted primarily on single sea kayaks so that each technique can be performed realistically, with proper dynamics and safety.
Those who prefer not to take part in the practical exercises may observe from a kayak or remain on the beach.
Wrap-up, preparation, and departure
At 11:30 we return to the campsite. Together we clean the gear, organize the equipment, wash the kayaks, and load them onto the trailers.
Around 15:30 we board the ferry, make a short stop in Ierissos for gyros, and then depart back to Bulgaria.
We leave Ammouliani with that quiet feeling that the sea has left its mark on each of us – a memory that will stay long after the waves disappear beyond the horizon.
Expected arrival in front of “Vasil Levski” Stadium in Sofia – around 23:00.
Paddling distance for the day: short training sessions within the bay.
Difficulty level according to distance: 1 out of 2.
