If you want to be part of a true sea adventure and paddle around an island whose coastline seems to glow in shades of turquoise, then Diaporos is a destination that will inevitably captivate you.
Located in the bay of Vourvourou on the Sithonia Peninsula, the island lies only a few minutes from the mainland, yet it feels like entering a completely different world – peaceful, vibrant, and almost unreal.
Its coastline is deeply indented, dotted with dozens of small coves, natural channels, and sandy spits where the water is shallow, crystal-clear, and warm. The sea surrounding the island shifts from pale turquoise to deep blue, creating one of the most spectacular color palettes in the Aegean Sea.

Diaporos is one of the most captivating places in the Aegean Sea – an island where nature has combined turquoise waters, fine white sand, and extraordinary granite formations into a harmony rarely found even in Halkidiki.
Located in the sheltered bay of Vourvourou, Diaporos offers a unique sense of tranquility: shallow, warm waters, almost no waves, and numerous natural lagoons accessible only by kayak.
Its coastline is richly indented, featuring dozens of small coves, sandy spits, hidden channels, and secluded beaches where the sea takes on almost unreal shades of blue. Among them stands out the famous Blue Lagoon – a shallow channel between Diaporos and Agria Island, renowned for its crystal-clear waters, bright sandy bottom, and distinctive turquoise glow. It is one of the most popular locations for swimming and snorkeling in the region.
Within the island and around its shallow waters, natural “inner seas” are formed – calm, sheltered areas that provide ideal conditions for coaching and improving sea kayaking skills.
Program:
Arrival in Ormos Panagias and Your First Encounter with Diaporos
We meet at 05:30 in front of Vasil Levski Stadium, and at 06:00 we depart from Sofia.
Our first stop is in the Kresna area – time for pastries, supplies, and water before continuing towards the Aegean coast.
Around midday, we arrive in Ormos Panagias. We stop for breakfast and coffee, purchase fresh fish from the local fish market, and continue to Rea Camping, located directly opposite Diaporos Island.
Together we unload the equipment and kayaks, organize the campsite, and after a short break we begin with the introductory safety briefing.
Afterwards, we paddle towards the first beaches of Diaporos Island. The day is dedicated to coaching and improving the fundamental sea kayaking techniques, allowing everyone to gain confidence before the longer routes ahead.
Shortly before sunset, we return to the campsite. In the evening, we light the barbecue, prepare dinner, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere by the sea.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 6 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 1 out of 4
Small Islands, Lagoons, and the Rhythm of Talgo Beach
This is the day when participants who have chosen the three-day adventure join the group. To take part in the full program, they must arrive at the campsite no later than 09:30, attend the safety briefing, and receive their equipment.
Today we will explore the coastline north of the campsite.
Our first stop is a sandy beach located opposite the small rocky islet with a chapel built literally in the water—one of the region's most iconic and peaceful locations, and one of the most photogenic spots along the route.
Our next stop is lunch at a beachfront tavern in Ormos Panagias, where we will recharge and enjoy beautiful views over the bay.
In the afternoon, we continue towards the famous Talgo Beach. We will visit the well-known Talgo Beach Bar, where the rhythm of the DJ parties creates an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Sithonia.
In the evening, we may light the barbecue once again or enjoy dinner at the campsite tavern.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 14 km with three breaks
Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4
Circumnavigating Diaporos Island and the Blue Lagoon
After breakfast, coffee, and preparing sandwiches for the day, we launch the kayaks and head towards Diaporos Island. Today we will complete a full circumnavigation of the island, enjoying sandy beaches during our breaks and swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea.
Three stops are planned throughout the day.
The first stop is on the southeastern beach of Diaporos—a quiet and peaceful place, perfect for swimming and a short rest.
The second stop is at the Blue Lagoon—the most iconic location on the northeastern side of the island. Here the water is emerald green, the sandy bottom is shallow and bright, and the colors are almost unreal. It is also the most popular area in the region, so we will take a longer break here and enjoy our lunch.
Please note that there are no restaurants or taverns on the island, so you should bring enough food and water for the entire day.
We then continue our circumnavigation, and our third stop takes us into the interior of the island, where we leave the kayaks behind and take a short walk to a small emerald-colored beach overlooking the Blue Lagoon—one of the most beautiful panoramic viewpoints on Diaporos.
In the evening, we have planned a group dinner at a traditional tavern in Vourvourou, where we will end the day with excellent food and a relaxed atmosphere by the sea.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 14 km with three stops
Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4
We meet by the kayaks at 09:30.
This is our final day and is dedicated to a short, focused paddling session and practical training in the bay at Rea Camping. We remain close to the bay while continuing to develop the most important sea kayaking skills.
Today's training includes
Kayak fundamentals and control
✅ proper entry and exit from a kayak at the shore and in shallow water;
✅ efficient forward and backward paddling with correct body position;
✅ stopping techniques and controlled speed reduction;
✅ course correction and changing direction.
Maneuvering and stability
✅ sideways paddling (draw stroke);
✅ maintaining stability using low brace and high brace techniques;
✅ basic techniques for preventing capsizing.
Rescue techniques
✅ self-rescue – re-entering the kayak after capsizing;
✅ assisted rescue – helping another kayaker.
The training is conducted mainly in single sea kayaks, allowing each technique to be practiced realistically, with proper dynamics and maximum safety.
Those who prefer not to participate in the practical exercises may observe from a boat or remain on the beach.
Packing up and departure
At 11:30 we return to the campsite. Together we clean the equipment, organize the gear, wash the kayaks, and load them onto the trailers.
Around 15:30 we depart. We will make a short stop in Nikiti for gyros before continuing our journey back to Bulgaria.
Expected arrival in front of Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia – around 23:00.
Paddling distance for the day: short training sessions in the bay.
Difficulty level according to distance: 1 out of 2.
How to get to Rea Camping?
You can travel completely free of charge with us in the vehicles used for transporting the kayak equipment, subject to the availability of the 16 passenger seats, or you may travel with your own vehicle.
Participants who have chosen our exciting three-day adventure arrive with their own transport and must be at the campsite no later than 09:30. Please be on time—the group departs promptly, and arriving late may result in missing the entire first day of the program.
