This is a kayak expedition along one of the wildest and least-known coastlines in Greece – the eastern part of the island of Evia. The route follows the real shape of the shoreline, without artificial shortcuts and without comfort zones between individual days. We paddle where the sea and the land set the pace.
The coastline is raw and diverse – dark pebbled beaches, rocky headlands, small island groups, and long stretches without any human presence. Some days are lighter, others require endurance, focus, and teamwork. This is not a tourist trip, but continuous movement by water – day after day.
We spend the nights on wild beaches, have dinner by the sea, and wake up to the sound of the waves. The final day takes us back toward civilization – through Mount Dirfi and the town of Chalkida, where the expedition completes its full circle.
This adventure is for people who seek movement, open space, and the feeling of being part of the place, not just observers of it.
Program:
First kilometers along the wild coast of Evia
Early in the morning we arrive in Glyfa and take the first available ferry to the island of Evia. The short sea crossing brings us to the island, where from the very first moments a different rhythm can be felt – quieter, wilder, and closer to nature.
After disembarking, we head toward Mantoudi Port – the starting point of our expedition. Here we unload the kayaks and equipment, organize the luggage, conduct a detailed briefing, and prepare the boats for the first launch. After the long journey, the route for the day is intentionally lighter – it is time for a smooth entry into the adventure.
We set off to the right from the port, follow the coastline, and soon reach our first break – Atalantos Beach. This is a calm and wide stretch of coast with clear water and a natural atmosphere, far from mass tourism. The beach is ideal for a first warm-up, swimming, and tuning into the sea of Evia – deep blue, clean, and pleasantly cool.
After a short rest, we continue toward Tiganakia Beach – a distinctive small beach shaped by rocky ridges and natural stone platforms. Here the sea is often mirror-calm, and the shoreline offers a sense of seclusion and closeness to nature.
The finish for the day is Pili Beach – another wild and authentic section of the coast, perfect for resting after the first kilometers. The fatigue from traveling begins to make itself felt, so we take our time – enjoying a relaxed meal either at a nearby taverna or directly on the beach with the food we have brought.
The remaining time is dedicated to rest, swimming, and silence. The day is intentionally shorter – it lays the foundation, sets the rhythm, and prepares both body and mind for the longer and wilder crossings that await in the days ahead.

Deep into the wild coastline of Evia
After a relaxed breakfast and morning coffee, we set off to the right from Pili Beach, along a coastline that gradually becomes wilder and more sparsely populated. The shoreline here is rugged and diverse – alternating low rocky sections, dark pebbly beaches, and small coves hidden within the folds of the terrain. The sea is deep blue, and the coast is completely free of roads and buildings, creating a strong sense of isolation and true expedition spirit.
Paralia Gkionati
Our first break is at Paralia Gkionati – a small, wild beach nestled between the rocks. The place is narrow, quiet, and almost always deserted. The water is exceptionally clear, with a rocky seabed that makes it suitable for a short swim and snorkeling. This is one of those places you stop at not because of amenities, but because nature has shaped it exactly as it should be.
Makrigialos Beach
After the break, we continue toward Makrigialos Beach, where we will make a longer stop for lunch. The beach is wider and more accessible, and right on the shore there is a small taverna offering fresh fish and simple local cuisine. This is an important stop for the day – a place to eat well and allow time for recovery.
Paralia Sarakiniko
We then continue toward Paralia Sarakiniko – a place that cannot be missed. Here we will allow extra time for rest and full recovery, as a long and uninterrupted section follows, with no convenient places to stop.
What follows is about 8 km of paddling without intermediate breaks, along an open and relatively monotonous coastline. This section delivers the true feeling of an expedition – a steady rhythm, focus, and teamwork, while the scenery slowly changes and the sea sets the pace.
Limnionas Beach
The finish for the day is Limnionas Beach – a spacious and wild beach, an ideal ending after the long paddle. The beach is open to the sea, with coarse sand and pebbles, and behind it there is nothing but hills and silence. Here we will have dinner, set up camp, and spend the night directly on the beach – with the sound of waves, salty air, and the feeling of being far away from everything unnecessary.
The day is long but extremely rewarding – from quiet wild coves to long kilometers along an open coastline. Exactly the way a true expedition day should be.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 20 km

Islands, headlands, and the wild finale at Chiliadou
After breakfast and coffee, we depart from Limnionas Beach and head south along a coastline that becomes increasingly rugged and rarely visited. This is a day where the sea and the terrain set the rhythm – long open sections alternate with more sheltered coves, and the sense of remoteness from civilization is constant.
Paralia Petali
Our first short break is at Paralia Petali – a small, wild beach with dark pebbles and deep, crystal-clear water. The beach is hidden between low rocky ridges and is rarely accessed by land. It is an ideal spot for a brief pause, stretching, and a swim before the next longer section.
Paralia Vithouri
We continue past Paralia Vithouri – another wild and undeveloped beach, characteristic of this part of Evia. The shoreline here is pebbly, and the water is deep and transparent. We make a second stop to regain energy and prepare for the more exposed part of the route.
The Trianisia island group
We then round the headland and enter an area with a small island group, led by Trianisia. Here the landscape changes noticeably – open sea alternates with narrow passages between the mainland and the islets, and the water is often calmer. Paddling through this section is exceptionally scenic and gives the feeling of entering an almost unexplored zone.
Livadakia Beach
After the island group, we stop at Livadakia Beach – a small, sheltered beach with fine pebbles and turquoise hues in the water. The place is quiet and suitable for a longer rest, swimming, and completely stepping out of the day’s rhythm.
Paralia Chiliadou
Our final stop for the day is Paralia Chiliadou – one of the most impressive wild beaches on Evia. Chiliadou is wide, with dark pebbles, sheer cliffs, and deep water right from the shore. The place is fully open to the sea and carries a powerful, raw atmosphere. Here we will have dinner and set up camp directly on the beach – under the stars, with the sound of waves, and nothing unnecessary around us.
The day is filled with emotion – varied terrain, island sections, and a finale that stays with you for a long time. A true expedition day that requires focus, but rewards you with the feeling of having gone through something meaningful.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 17 km

Beaches, silence, and complete relaxation
After several intense expedition days, this day is dedicated entirely to the sea in its calmest form – beach time, swimming, and rest. No rushing, no long crossings, just movement in the rhythm of the place.
After breakfast and morning coffee, we depart from Paralia Chiliadou and head toward Nautiko Beach (Paralia Nautiko). This is a wild, relatively little-visited beach, known for its clear water and peaceful atmosphere. The shoreline is pebbly, and the sea becomes deep quickly, making it excellent for swimming and snorkeling. The rocks around the bay form a natural shelter from the wind and create a sense of seclusion – an ideal place to spend long hours in the water and on the beach, without watching the clock.
After we have fully enjoyed the sea, we head back to Paralia Metochiou, where we will have lunch. The beach is wider and more accessible, with gentler terrain and a relaxed setting. It is a pleasant place for a long midday break – food, shade, and time for full recovery after the previous days of paddling.
In the afternoon, we return again to Paralia Chiliadou, where the rest of the day awaits without a fixed program – beach time, swimming, rest, and simply enjoying the place. In the evening, we spend the night here once more, on the same wild beach that has already become our “home” – with a sunset over the sea, silence, and the feeling that time has slowed down.
This day is a pause that gives meaning to the entire adventure – a moment to experience Evia not as a route, but as a place where you simply stay.

From wild Evia to the city and back home
The morning begins calmly – breakfast, packing up the camp, and one last look at the sea. Today we are no longer paddling, but slowly leaving the wild part of Evia, passing by the Dirfys massif (Mount Dirfys) – the highest mountain on the island. Rising over 1,700 meters, it dominates central Evia and creates a unique microclimate. Dirfys retains moisture, cools the air, and makes the northern part of the island greener, fresher, and cooler even in the height of summer. The mountain has been the natural backdrop of our adventure – always somewhere above us, even when we were right on the shoreline.
We continue toward Chalkida – the capital and largest city of Evia. Chalkida is a lively, dynamic city, located right at the threshold between the island and mainland Greece. Here we will take a walk, have lunch at one of the seaside tavernas, and feel the sharp change in rhythm – from wild beaches and silence to urban energy and movement.
One of the most interesting places in Chalkida is the Euripus Strait – the narrow sea passage separating Evia from the mainland. It is famous for its unique natural phenomenon: the currents in the strait reverse direction several times a day, without any obvious reason. For centuries, this phenomenon puzzled scientists and philosophers – including Aristotle, who studied these waters himself. Even today, the Euripus Strait remains one of the strangest and most impressive hydrodynamic phenomena in Europe.
After our walk and lunch in Chalkida, we head back toward Bulgaria. The adventure comes to a gradual close – with tired bodies, salt on the skin, and that pleasant feeling of having stepped out of everyday life and returned a little changed.
Expected arrival in Sofia: around 23:00
Evia stays behind us – wild, rugged, and real. And we already know that some coastlines are hard to leave… and are always carried with you.
