Lefkada is an island that impresses from the very first glance – dramatic cliffs, deeply carved bays, and sea colors that are difficult to describe in words. Combined with the calmer and greener Meganisi, this adventure creates the perfect balance between dynamics and relaxation.
Over the course of five days, we will paddle along carefully selected routes in different parts of the islands. Each day starts from a different starting point, allowing us to reach the most beautiful and hard-to-access places – far from tourist boats and crowded beaches.
We will pass along high limestone cliffs, enter sea caves, stop at wild beaches with white pebbles and turquoise water, swim, snorkel, and enjoy the sense of freedom that only sea kayaking can offer.
Meganisi adds a different dimension to the journey – sheltered waters, calm bays, and small islets that create the feeling of a mini archipelago. This is the place where the pace slows down and the sea becomes mirror-like calm.
The event features balanced daily paddling distances, enough breaks, and time to truly experience the places we pass through. It is suitable both for people with previous sea kayaking experience and for motivated participants who want to build and improve their skills in a real marine environment.
Lefkada and Meganisi are not just visited – they are experienced. And the best way to do that is at water level, paddle in hand and the horizon ahead of you.
Program:
Departure
On the evening of 23.06.2026, the meeting is at 22:00 in front of Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia, and at 22:30 we depart towards Greece.
Our first stop is in the area of Kresna, where we will have time to stock up on food and water before continuing the journey.
First paddle strokes in the emerald waters of Lefkada
After our morning arrival in Lefkada, we stop in Nidri for breakfast and coffee. Here we will have the opportunity to buy fresh fish from the local fish market and replenish our food supplies for the following days.
We continue to Santa Maura camping, located on the beautiful and sheltered Desimi Beach – one of the most suitable places for kayaking in the area. Together we unload the equipment and kayaks. After a short break, this is followed by a briefing, distribution of equipment, and preparation for the first paddling session.
We divide the group into two:
Beginners remain in the bay, where in calm conditions we will work on basic techniques, balance, and control of the sea kayak.
Advanced paddlers head towards Skorpios Island – the legendary private island of Aristotle Onassis. Skorpios is known for its dense pine forests, rocky coastline, and crystal-clear waters. The island is a symbol of the Greek jet set of the last century and impresses with its sense of seclusion and inaccessibility, making it extremely attractive for a kayak circumnavigation. (stopping on the island is prohibited)
After about an hour, the two groups reunite and together we head towards Meganisi Island, where we will stop for a break and refreshment at a beach bar, enjoying our first true Ionian views from the water.
In the late afternoon, we return back to the camping site. In the evening, we will light the barbecue, prepare dinner, share our first impressions of the adventure, and relax in the calm atmosphere by the sea.
⚠️ There are no reliable establishments along the route – bring your own food and sufficient water for the entire day.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 8 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4
The Blue Cave and the wild side of Meganisi
After breakfast, we launch the kayaks and set off across the turquoise-ink sea towards one of the most impressive natural landmarks in the area – the Blue Cave. Its entrance is through a narrow crack in the rocks, which from the outside looks almost unnoticeable. Inside, the gallery is dimly lit, and the light penetrating from the sea creates a sense of endless blue space and magical depth.
After visiting the cave, we divide the group into two:
Beginners and more relaxed paddlers head towards a wild sandy beach on Meganisi Island, where they will have time for swimming, rest, and enjoying the calm atmosphere.
More advanced and motivated paddlers continue towards Papa Nikolaos Cave on Meganisi – one of the most impressive sea caves in the area. It stands out with its large entrance, high vault, and the possibility to paddle deep inside with a kayak. Its interior is shaped by limestone formations with unusual forms, and the reflected light creates dramatic contrasts between darkness and bright blue.
After completing the routes, the two groups reunite and together we head to a beach bar on Meganisi, where we will share impressions, recharge, and relax in a typical island atmosphere.
In the afternoon, we paddle back towards the campsite. Along the entire route, we will enjoy impressive rock formations, small bays, and wild beaches. The area is extremely suitable for snorkeling, swimming, and cliff jumping for those who wish.
⚠️ There are no reliable establishments along the route – bring your own food and sufficient water for the entire day.
The evening is free program – dinner at the campsite or a visit to a tavern of your choice, time for rest and sharing the emotions of the day.
Paddling distance for the day (beginners): approximately 17 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 3 out of 4
Paddling distance for the day (motivated): approximately 22 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 4 out of 4
Meganisi Island and the panoramas of the Ionian Sea
This day is more relaxed and well balanced – dedicated to easy paddling, beautiful views, and exploring the island of Meganisi.
After breakfast, we launch the kayaks and head towards the small town of Spartochori – the administrative and spiritual heart of the island. We reach Porto Spilia harbor, where we land and leave the kayaks.
From there, we set off on a short hike to the village itself, located at the highest point of the island. From the very first steps, an impressive stone terrace is revealed, where centuries ago a fortress once stood, protecting Meganisi from pirate attacks. The view from here is truly breathtaking – in front of us opens a panorama towards the Scorpidi archipelago, Skorpios Island, and the azure waters of the Ionian Sea.
In Spartochori, we will have lunch at a traditional tavern, enjoying the calm atmosphere, local cuisine, and the island rhythm of life.
After lunch, we return back to the kayaks and with light paddling head back towards the campsite, where an afternoon of rest and relaxation awaits us.
In the evening, we will visit the town of Nidri, where we will stroll along the seaside promenade and have dinner at a local tavern, to end the day in the typical atmosphere of Lefkada.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 13 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4
The west coast – the jewel in the crown
This day is dedicated to the west coast of Lefkada – raw, majestic, and undoubtedly the most impressive part of the island. We organize a transfer to Gialos Beach, where we launch the kayaks and head south, following the high limestone cliffs that rise hundreds of meters above the sea.
From the very first paddle strokes, it becomes clear why this coastline is legendary – deep turquoise waters, a sharply dropping seabed, and monumental cliffs casting shadows over the sea. Paddling here is open and demanding, and the sense of scale is unlike anything else in the Ionian Islands.
Our first break is at Egremni Beach – one of the most iconic and photogenic beaches in Greece.
With a length of about 2.5 kilometers, the beach is covered with extremely fine, light-colored sand, and the water shimmers in incredible shades of blue and turquoise. The high vertical cliffs behind the beach create the feeling of being inside a natural amphitheater carved by nature itself. Here we will have time for swimming, rest, and recovery before continuing.
Porto Katsiki – an icon of Lefkada
We continue towards Porto Katsiki – one of the most famous beaches not only on Lefkada, but in all of Greece. The massive white cliffs descending directly into the sea contrast sharply with the deep blue water, creating a landscape that is hard to forget.
Here we will take a longer break, have lunch, and refresh ourselves with a drink, enjoying the view of one of the most photographed places in the country.
After the break, we paddle back along the same route towards Gialos Beach.
and if there is time, we will stop again at Egremni Beach
The afternoon sun and the changing light make the coastline even more dramatic, and the return brings that pleasant feeling of a full and rewarding day on the water.
In the evening, we head to Vasiliki, where we will have dinner at a tried and trusted local tavern – a fitting finale to one of the strongest days in the program.
⚠️ There are no reliable places for lunch along the route – bring your own food and enough water for the entire day.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 19 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 4 out of 4
