Lefkada is an island that impresses from the very first glance—with dramatic cliffs, deeply indented bays, and a sea painted in shades that are difficult to describe with words. Combined with the calmer and greener island of Meganisi, this adventure creates the perfect balance between excitement and relaxation.
Over the course of five days, we will paddle along carefully selected routes in different parts of both islands. Each day begins from a different launch point, allowing us to reach some of the most spectacular and secluded places—far from tourist boats and crowded beaches.
We will paddle beneath towering limestone cliffs, explore sea caves, stop at wild beaches with white pebbles and turquoise waters, swim, snorkel, and enjoy the unique sense of freedom that only sea kayaking can provide.
Meganisi adds another dimension to the journey—with sheltered waters, peaceful bays, and small islets that create the feeling of a miniature archipelago. This is where the pace slows down and the sea becomes mirror-like and calm.
The program features well-balanced daily paddling distances, plenty of breaks, and enough time to truly experience every place we visit. It is suitable both for participants with previous sea kayaking experience and for motivated paddlers who wish to develop their skills in a real open-water environment.
Lefkada and Meganisi are not simply places to visit—they are places to experience. And there is no better way to do so than from sea level, with a paddle in your hands and the horizon stretching out before you.
Program:
Departure
On the evening of 25.08.2026, we meet at 22:00 in front of Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia, and at 22:30 we depart for Greece.
Our first stop will be in the Kresna area, where we will have time to stock up on food and drinking water before continuing our journey.
Your First Paddle in the Emerald Waters of Lefkada
After arriving in Lefkada in the morning, we stop in Nidri for breakfast and coffee. Here, we will also have the opportunity to buy fresh fish from the local fish market and stock up on food supplies for the coming days.
We then continue to Santa Maura Camping, located on the beautiful and sheltered Desimi Beach—one of the best sea kayaking locations in the area. Together, we unload the kayaks and equipment. After a short break, we hold the introductory briefing, distribute the equipment, and prepare for our first paddle.
The group is divided into two:
Beginners remain in the sheltered bay, where we focus on the fundamentals of sea kayaking, including balance, boat control, and basic paddling techniques in calm conditions.
The more experienced paddlers head towards Scorpios Island—the legendary private island once owned by Aristotle Onassis. Scorpios is famous for its dense pine forests, rocky coastline, and crystal-clear waters. The island became a symbol of the Greek jet set of the last century and impresses with its atmosphere of privacy and exclusivity, making it a fascinating destination to explore by kayak. (Landing on the island is prohibited.)
After approximately one hour, both groups reunite and paddle together towards Meganisi Island, where we stop for a break and refreshments at a beach bar while enjoying our first breathtaking Ionian views from the water.
In the late afternoon, we return to the campsite. In the evening, we light the barbecue, prepare dinner, share our first impressions of the adventure, and relax in the peaceful atmosphere by the sea.
⚠️ There are no guaranteed places to buy food or drinks along today's route, so please bring enough food and drinking water for the entire day.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 8 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4
The Blue Cave and the Wild Side of Meganisi
After breakfast, we launch the kayaks and head across the turquoise-blue waters towards one of the region's most spectacular natural landmarks—the Blue Cave. Its entrance is hidden within a narrow opening in the cliffs, almost invisible from the outside. Inside, the cave is softly illuminated, while the sunlight reflected from the sea creates the illusion of endless blue space and extraordinary depth.
After visiting the cave, the group splits into two:
Beginners and those preferring a more relaxed pace paddle towards a secluded sandy beach on Meganisi Island, where there will be plenty of time for swimming, relaxing, and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
The more experienced and motivated paddlers continue towards the famous Papanikolis Cave on Meganisi—one of the largest and most impressive sea caves in the Ionian Sea. It is renowned for its enormous entrance, soaring ceiling, and the possibility of paddling deep inside. Its interior is sculpted by limestone formations, while the reflected light creates dramatic contrasts between darkness and brilliant shades of blue.
After completing the different routes, both groups reunite and paddle together to a beach bar on Meganisi, where we relax, share our experiences, and enjoy the laid-back island atmosphere.
In the afternoon, we paddle back to the campsite. Throughout the journey, we enjoy spectacular rock formations, hidden coves, and secluded beaches. The area is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and, for those who wish, cliff jumping.
⚠️ There are no guaranteed restaurants or taverns along today's route, so everyone should bring sufficient food and drinking water for the entire day.
The evening is free—dinner at the campsite or at a tavern of your choice, followed by time to relax and share the highlights of the day.
Paddling distance for the day (beginners): approximately 17 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 3 out of 4
Paddling distance for the day (advanced group): approximately 22 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 4 out of 4
Meganisi Island and the Panoramic Views of the Ionian Sea
This day is more relaxed and well balanced, dedicated to leisurely paddling, spectacular scenery, and discovering the island of Meganisi.
After breakfast, we launch the kayaks and paddle towards the small village of Spartochori—the administrative and cultural heart of the island. We arrive at Porto Spilia, where we land and leave the kayaks on the shore.
From there, we take a short walk up to the village itself, located at the highest point of the island. After only a few minutes, we reach an impressive stone terrace where, centuries ago, a fortress stood guarding Meganisi against pirate attacks. The panoramic view from here is truly breathtaking, overlooking the Skorpidi Archipelago, Scorpios Island, and the azure waters of the Ionian Sea.
In Spartochori, we will enjoy lunch at a traditional tavern, taking in the peaceful atmosphere, local cuisine, and the relaxed rhythm of island life.
After lunch, we return to the kayaks and paddle at an easy pace back to the campsite, where the rest of the afternoon is reserved for relaxation and leisure.
In the evening, we visit the town of Nidri, where we will stroll along the waterfront promenade and enjoy dinner at a local tavern, bringing the day to a close in the authentic atmosphere of Lefkada.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 13 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4
The West Coast – The Crown Jewel of Lefkada
This day is dedicated to the western coastline of Lefkada – rugged, majestic, and undoubtedly the island's most spectacular shoreline. We organize a transfer to Gialos Beach, where we launch the kayaks and head south, following the towering limestone cliffs that rise hundreds of meters above the sea.
From the very first paddle strokes, it becomes clear why this coastline is legendary – deep turquoise waters, a rapidly descending seabed, and monumental cliffs casting dramatic shadows over the sea. Paddling here is open, dynamic, and engaging, while the overwhelming sense of scale is unlike anywhere else in the Ionian Islands.
Our first stop is Egremni Beach – one of the most iconic and photogenic beaches in Greece.
Stretching for approximately 2.5 kilometers, the beach is covered with incredibly fine white pebbles, while the sea displays extraordinary shades of blue and turquoise. The towering vertical cliffs behind the beach create the feeling of a natural amphitheater sculpted by nature itself. Here we will have time for swimming, relaxing, and recovering before continuing our journey.
Porto Katsiki – The Icon of Lefkada
We continue towards Porto Katsiki – one of the most famous beaches not only on Lefkada but in all of Greece. Enormous white limestone cliffs plunge directly into the deep blue sea, creating a landscape that is impossible to forget.
Here we will enjoy a longer break, have lunch, and relax with a refreshing drink while taking in the views of one of the most photographed locations in the country.
After our break, we paddle back along the same route towards Gialos Beach.
If time allows, we will make another stop at Egremni Beach.
The afternoon sunlight and changing colors make the coastline even more dramatic, and the return journey brings the satisfying feeling of a truly rewarding day on the water.
In the evening, we head to Vasiliki, where we will enjoy dinner at one of our favorite local taverns—the perfect ending to one of the highlights of the entire program.
⚠️ There are no guaranteed places to buy lunch along today's route, so please bring sufficient food and drinking water for the entire day.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 19 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 4 out of 4
