This is a journey where the rhythm of the water sets the pace, while the coastline tells stories of mythology, nature, and freedom.

At the height of summer, when much of Greece is immersed in intense heat, Pelion offers a rare sense of coolness. At the foot of the mountain, the air is fresher, the sea breeze is constant, and the shade of the forests stretches all the way to the coastline. From the very first glimpse of the shore, you can feel that this place breathes differently.
Pelion is one of those rare places in Greece where nature, history, and mythology intertwine in a way that can be felt from the very first glance at the coastline. The mountain descends steeply into the Aegean Sea, forming a dramatic shoreline of towering cliffs, deep blue waters, and small coves hidden between dense forests and rocky ridges.
According to ancient Greek legends, Pelion is the land of the centaurs—the place where the wise Chiron, teacher of Achilles and Jason, once lived. It was from these shores that the Argonauts set sail on their quest for the Golden Fleece. Even today, this coastline carries a sense of raw power and ancient history—wild, untouched, and authentic.
Our five-day sea kayaking adventure begins with two days in the Gulf of Volos, followed by two days along the eastern coast of Pelion—a part of the peninsula that remains far from mass tourism and is best experienced from the water. We will paddle beneath towering cliff faces, enter secluded coves with deep crystal-clear water, and reach beaches that are rarely visited and accessible only by kayak.
The route has been carefully balanced. Daily paddling distances are planned according to the terrain, sea conditions, and the abilities of the group, leaving plenty of time for swimming, relaxation, and fully experiencing this remarkable place. Pelion is not a destination to rush through—it is a landscape that invites attention, silence, and respect.
Our accommodation is at Camping Olizon. There are no crowded beach bars or noisy resorts here—only stars, waves, and conversations that continue long into the evening.
Pelion is an adventure for those seeking more than beautiful scenery—for those who want to experience the sea up close, move in harmony with its rhythm, and become part of a landscape that has remained almost unchanged since ancient times.
Program:
We meet at 23:30 in front of Vasil Levski Stadium, with departure from Sofia at 24:00.
Our first stop will be in the Kresna area – time for pastries, supplies, and water before continuing our journey towards Volos.
First Encounter with Pelion
We arrive and settle in at Camping Olizon, located close to the coastal village of Milina – a peaceful place nestled between green hills and the Aegean Sea. In the village, we will enjoy breakfast and experience the first rhythm of Pelion – slow, maritime, and authentic.
After breakfast, we unload the equipment and kayaks. A short break follows, then a detailed briefing, equipment distribution, and an introduction to the route and sea conditions. The day is designed as an introduction – both to the sea and to the kayaks and the group.
We divide the group into two. The more experienced paddlers will make a circuit around the island opposite the campsite, while the beginners will take part in an introductory sea kayaking session, practicing the fundamental paddling and boat control techniques. Afterwards, everyone sets off together in calm waters towards our first destination – Olive Beach, a small sheltered beach with Pelion's characteristic pebble shoreline and exceptionally clear water. Here we continue refining the basic paddling techniques through practical exercises.
The next part of the route leads us to a series of wild, little-visited beaches hidden between rocky cliffs and green hillsides. It is the perfect introduction to the adventure – a relaxed pace, time for swimming, breaks, and gradually discovering the unique character of eastern Pelion.
Late in the afternoon, we return to the campsite. The evening is dedicated to relaxation – dinner at the campsite or in a traditional tavern in Milina. The barbecue is available for all participants. It is worth noting that there is no fish market in the village, but there is an excellent butcher's shop, and local fishermen regularly pass through selling freshly caught fish directly from their vehicles – part of the authentic rhythm of life in the area.

Islands, Silence, and Traces of the Past
After breakfast, we launch the kayaks and set off across the turquoise-blue waters of the Aegean Sea. The day is dedicated to paddling through open water, island silhouettes, and the feeling of complete isolation from the mainland.
Our first stop is Alatas Island – a small, peaceful island with crystal-clear waters and a wild character. Here we will take a break for swimming, relaxation, and a short rest before continuing our journey.
Shortly before reaching our next destination, we paddle into a sea cave hidden within the rocky coastline. Entering the cave is a brief yet unforgettable experience, revealing the raw and untouched nature of this part of Pelion.
We then continue towards a nearby islet, home to the remains of a remarkably well-preserved medieval monastery. The place has a strong sense of history and solitude – stone walls, silence, and endless views across the sea. Here we stop for lunch and have time to explore and relax.
After lunch, we continue by circumnavigating Alatas Island from its opposite side before making our way back to the campsite in the late afternoon.
Please note that there are no taverns or restaurants along today's route, so everyone should bring enough food and drinking water for the entire day.
The evening is free. We return to the campsite for dinner and relaxation – time to unwind, share stories, and recharge for the next days of the adventure.

The Eastern Coast of Pelion
Today is entirely devoted to the sea. If the swell and wind allow, we organize a transfer to the port of Paltsi – the starting point for one of the most technical and exciting sections of the Pelion coastline.
From Paltsi, we head north, following the rugged and deeply indented shoreline. Our final destinations for the day are Melani and Potistika beaches. The distance is relatively short – no more than 6 km – but this is one of the most challenging routes of the entire adventure.
The coastline here is filled with rocky headlands, narrow passages, and dramatic rock formations that require precise maneuvering, solid technique, and complete concentration. The more experienced paddlers will weave between rocks and granite ridges, working with the waves and their reflections from the cliffs while carefully choosing every line. This is sea kayaking in its purest form – technical, dynamic, and highly engaging. Of course, all participants will wear helmets.
Beginners will observe from the calmer sections, with that slight feeling of admiration that inspires motivation, looking forward to the day when they too will confidently paddle through such terrain.
Melani Beach welcomes us with its rugged, untamed character – dark sand and pebbles, towering cliffs, and deep water that changes dramatically depending on the sea conditions. Potistika Beach, located a little farther along the coast, is even more impressive with its vast scale and dramatic scenery. These are places that are not meant to be "conquered" but experienced – with respect and appreciation.
At one of the two beaches, we will enjoy a longer break for relaxation, swimming, and reviewing the route. Lunch will be at a beachfront tavern, after which, depending on the conditions, we return along the same route.
After finishing our paddle, we drive high into the mountains to the village of Argalasti, where we conclude the day with dinner at a traditional tavern renowned for its local cuisine. The stone architecture and peaceful atmosphere of the village provide the perfect contrast to an exciting and demanding day on the water.

After the intensity of the previous day, we return once again to the eastern coast of Pelion. If sea conditions allow, we organize another transfer to the port of Paltsi, but this time we head south along a route with a different character and new challenges.
From Paltsi, we paddle south towards Παραλία Μουρτιά (Paralia Mourtia) – a picturesque beach set within a well-protected bay, featuring crystal-clear water and the characteristic pebble shoreline of Pelion. The area combines tranquility with rugged natural beauty, while the bay often provides more sheltered conditions than the exposed coastline.
Opposite the beach lies an area of fascinating and technical rock formations that we will carefully explore. The coastline here is deeply indented, with rocky ridges, narrow channels, and sections perfectly suited for technical maneuvering and working with the waves. It is terrain that allows us to practice boat control, route selection, and precise paddling close to the rocks while maintaining complete safety.
At Mourtia Beach, we will enjoy a longer break for swimming, relaxation, and lunch. There may be no operating taverns or cafés along today's route, so it is important that everyone brings sufficient food and drinking water for the entire day.
After our break, we return along the same route back to Paltsi, once again carefully monitoring both the sea conditions and the pace of the group. The day is well balanced – covering a shorter distance while focusing on technique, confidence, and quality time on the water.
In the evening, we return to Milina, where we conclude the day with dinner at a traditional tavern. The maritime atmosphere, simple local dishes, and the peaceful rhythm of the village provide the perfect ending to another rewarding day along the shores of Pelion.

The training is conducted primarily in single sea kayaks, allowing every technique to be practiced realistically, with proper dynamics and maximum safety.
Participants who prefer not to take part in the practical exercises may observe from a kayak or remain on the beach.
Packing Up and Departure
At 11:00 we return to the campsite. Together we clean the equipment, organize the gear, and load the kayaks onto the trailers.
Around 14:00 we depart for Bulgaria.
Expected arrival in front of Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia – around 23:00.
Circumnavigation of Trikeri Island and Pythou Island
If weather conditions along the eastern coast of Pelion are not suitable for sea kayaking on any of the planned days, we switch to an alternative route in more sheltered waters – a circumnavigation of Trikeri and Pythou Islands, located in the calm bay opposite southern Pelion.
Trikeri is a small, inhabited island that has preserved the authentic spirit of the old fishing communities. Stone houses, a picturesque harbor, and the absence of cars create the feeling of a place where time has stood still. Its shoreline alternates between pebble beaches, secluded coves, and crystal-clear waters, making it ideal for relaxed paddling and snorkeling.
Pythou Island, located close to Trikeri, is completely uninhabited and even wilder. It impresses with its rugged landscape, crystal-clear waters, and complete absence of human development. It is a place that can truly be appreciated only from the sea—offering silence, transparency, and complete harmony with nature.
We organize a transfer to the port of Alopoporos, where we unload the kayaks and set off towards Trikeri Island. From the very first paddle strokes, we enter a calm stretch of sea protected from wind and waves, creating ideal conditions for a rewarding day on the water.
During the circumnavigation, we stop at three secluded beaches located along the shores of both islands. These breaks are dedicated to swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying the crystal-clear waters and peaceful atmosphere that define this part of the Aegean.
The route finishes at the harbor of Trikeri Island, where we stop at one of the local taverns. Here the pace slows down, allowing us to enjoy authentic Greek cuisine and the unique atmosphere of a place that has preserved its character far from mass tourism.
In the evening, we return to Milina, where we end the day with dinner at a traditional tavern. The maritime atmosphere, simple local dishes, and the peaceful rhythm of the village provide the perfect conclusion to another unforgettable day along the shores of Pelion.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 15 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 3 out of 4
