Paxos and Antipaxos are among the smallest yet most spectacular islands in the Ionian Sea. They are renowned for their extraordinary waters—bright, crystal-clear, and filled with shades of blue and green that are difficult to describe with words. Here you will find some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece, often referred to as the "Caribbean of the Ionian Sea."
This sea kayaking adventure is organized as a series of daily routes exploring both islands. Each day we paddle along a different stretch of coastline, following its natural contours—limestone cliffs, deep bays, narrow passages, and sea caves sculpted by the waves. Antipaxos welcomes us with white sandy beaches and shallow turquoise lagoons, while Paxos reveals a wilder and more dramatic landscape, with impressive sea caves and towering vertical cliffs plunging directly into the sea.
The routes have been carefully designed to combine active paddling with plenty of time for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxation. The sea in this region is often calm and well protected, making the experience suitable both for experienced paddlers and for participants wishing to further develop their sea kayaking skills.
This is neither a race nor an expedition with exhausting distances. It is a journey across the water—slow, immersive, and filled with spectacular scenery, sunlight, and the feeling of complete freedom. Paxos and Antipaxos reveal their true beauty only from the sea, and a kayak is the perfect way to experience them.
Program:
On the evening of 08.09.2026, we meet at 22:00 in front of Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia, with departure scheduled for 22:30.
Our first stop will be in the Kresna area, where we will have time to stock up on food and drinking water before continuing our journey.
We arrive in Igoumenitsa at approximately 08:00 and take the ferry to the island of Paxos. After disembarking, we leave the trailers and kayaks on a small beach in the northeastern part of the island and head towards Lakka, where we will check into our accommodation.
After settling into our guest house and taking a short break, we gather for the safety briefing and equipment distribution.
The group is then divided into two. Beginners take part in an introductory sea kayaking session, while the more experienced paddlers head out to explore the coastline and sea caves in the southeastern part of the island.
The evening is free. We will enjoy dinner at a traditional tavern in Lakka and experience the peaceful atmosphere of this charming little harbor village.
Paddling distance for the day: 8 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4.
The second day begins with breakfast and a morning coffee at a small bakery in Lakka, after which we head towards the southeastern coast of the island for our first true adventure around Paxos. We launch from the beach and paddle to the left, passing two small islets and natural rock arches before continuing along a coastline dotted with beautiful sandy beaches.
Along the route, we pass several sandy beaches and traditional taverns, offering excellent opportunities for breaks and lunch. The paddling is relaxed and scenic, with plenty of time for swimming, snorkeling, and simply enjoying the surroundings. In the late afternoon, we return to Lakka, land on the beach, leave the kayaks, and head back to our guest house.
The evening is once again free. You may enjoy dinner at one of Lakka's traditional taverns and spend some time strolling around the charming little harbor.
Paddling distance for the day: 12 km

The Eastern Coast of Paxos
Today we complete the full circumnavigation of Paxos Island. After breakfast and a morning coffee, we launch the kayaks and set off on the day when the island reveals its most spectacular and untamed side.
The eastern coastline of Paxos is the island's most dramatic section and the reason why many sea kayakers consider it one of the most beautiful places in the Ionian Sea. The shoreline is entirely rocky, with towering limestone cliffs plunging vertically into the sea. Here, nature has sculpted enormous sea caves, natural arches, and tunnels that can only be reached from the water.
Along the route, we paddle past the impressive Blue Caves of Paxos—a system of enormous sea caves with soaring ceilings, deep entrances, and crystal-clear water reflecting brilliant shades of blue and emerald green. Entering these caves by kayak is one of the island's most memorable experiences, as their true scale can only be appreciated from sea level.
The highlight of the day is paddling beneath the famous Tripitos Arch—one of the most iconic natural landmarks of Paxos. This enormous natural stone bridge was formed by the collapse of a massive limestone cliff. The view from below is breathtaking: the sea flows beneath the arch while the gigantic rock formation rises high above, shaped by centuries of wind and waves. It is one of the island's most photographed and recognizable landmarks.
Throughout the journey, we land on several secluded beaches hidden beneath the cliffs—small stretches of pebbles and shingle surrounded by emerald waters and complete silence. There are no restaurants or places to buy food along the route, so everyone must bring sufficient food and drinking water for the entire day.
After reaching the end of the paddling route, we leave the kayaks on the beach and continue by minibus to Gaios—the capital and liveliest town on Paxos.
Gaios is a picturesque harbor town protected by two small islands—Panagia and Agios Nikolaos—which form a naturally sheltered bay. Here we stroll along the waterfront promenade before ending the day with dinner at a traditional tavern, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and the flavors of the Ionian Sea.
After dinner, we return with the feeling of having experienced the wildest, grandest, and most unforgettable side of Paxos—a single day that alone justifies the entire adventure.
Paddling distance for the day: 18 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 4 out of 4
Antipaxos – The Aquamarine Paradise of the Ionian Sea
This day is dedicated to exploring Antipaxos—a small yet breathtaking island, renowned for its astonishingly clear aquamarine waters and silky white sandy beaches.
The island's most famous and beautiful beaches are Voutoumi and Vrika, both located on the northern coast. They are celebrated for their light-blue shallow waters, fine white sand, and tropical atmosphere, something rarely found anywhere else in Europe. South of these two beaches lie several smaller, secluded coves—peaceful, sheltered, and perfect for relaxing and swimming.
The northwestern side of Antipaxos is quieter and less visited, featuring a beautiful bay that offers ideal conditions for sea kayaking and relaxation far from the crowds.
The more enthusiastic and physically prepared participants will have the opportunity to complete a full circumnavigation of the island by kayak, while the rest of the group can enjoy a combination of beach time, swimming, beach bars, and taverns located directly on the sand.
At the end of the day, we return to Paxos. Together, we clean the equipment, organize the gear, and load the kayaks onto the trailers before heading to one of the island's traditional taverns for our farewell dinner and a chance to share the highlights of the adventure.
Paddling distance for the day: approximately 18 km
Difficulty level according to distance: 3 out of 4
We gather at 09:00, enjoy breakfast, and set off on a short hike to Tripitos Arch—one of the most spectacular natural rock arches on Paxos.
From here, a breathtaking panorama unfolds across the open Ionian Sea: towering limestone cliffs, the deep blue sea far below, and the dramatic outline of the island shaped by wind and waves.
It is a place that offers perspective—both on the immense power of nature and on the remarkable journey we have just completed.
Afterwards, we head to the ferry, cross back to the mainland, and begin our journey home to Bulgaria.
Expected arrival in front of Vasil Levski Stadium – around 23:00.
We leave with sand in our shoes, salt on our skin, and the feeling that the sea is no longer simply a place, but a memory that will call us back again and again.
