The Sea Kayak Circumnavigation of Sithonia is an experience that reveals the peninsula in its most authentic form – one that remains hidden from those travelling by land. The route follows the natural curve of the coastline, where the mountains gradually descend into the sea, and rocky headlands, secluded bays, and sandy beaches create an ever-changing coastal landscape.
Every day offers something different – from long sandy beaches and sheltered lagoons to open-water crossings and iconic beaches with fine white sand and turquoise waters. Overnight stays at different campsites along the route create the feeling of a true expedition, while still providing comfort and relaxation after a rewarding day on the water.
This event is designed as a social sea journey – with plenty of time for swimming, snorkeling, conversations by the sea, and shared dinners each evening. The pace is well balanced, and the organization allows participants to focus entirely on the experience itself, without unnecessary pressure or stress.
This is an adventure for those seeking a deep connection with the sea, moving in harmony with nature, and experiencing the unique sense of freedom that comes only from following the coastline in your own kayak, at your own pace.
Program:
From Sofia to Nikiti: The Beginning of the Sithonia Circumnavigation
We meet at 05:30 in front of Vasil Levski Stadium, and at 06:00 we depart from Sofia.
Our first stop is in the Kresna area – time for pastries, supplies, and water before continuing our journey towards Sithonia.
Around midday, we arrive in Nikiti, where we will have lunch and prepare for the beginning of our expedition adventure.
After the break, we unload the kayaks and equipment together and carry everything to the beach.
We load all our gear and food into the kayaks and set off southward.
First stop – Lagomandra Beach
Our first break is at Lagomandra Beach – one of the most beautiful beaches on the western coast of Sithonia.
The beach is famous for its fine golden sand, calm crystal-clear water, and a long line of pine trees reaching almost to the sea.
It is well equipped with sunbeds and beach bars while still preserving a feeling of openness, nature, and tranquility.
Here we will recharge, relax, and enjoy the first turquoise waters of our journey.
Overnight stay – Camping Marmaras
After a short break, we continue to the location of our first overnight stay – Camping Marmaras.
The campsite is situated in a beautiful sheltered bay with fine sand, crystal-clear water, and natural protection from the wind.
The beach is peaceful, picturesque, and perfect for an evening swim after the day's paddle.
After setting up camp and organizing our equipment, we will have dinner at the campsite tavern, while those who prefer may prepare their own meal. The evening ends beneath the stars, in the peaceful atmosphere of the bay – the first true moment of our coastal adventure.
The accommodation fees are €8 per person and €8 per tent per night, payable directly to the campsite management.

The Sandbar, the Wild Beaches of Western Sithonia, and an Overnight Stay at IZA Beach
The following morning, we pack up our camp and depart from Camping Marmaras.
Very soon we reach a natural sandbar, one of the small natural landmarks of this region. It is a narrow strip of pale sand connecting two low stretches of land.
Here the sea is shallow, calm, and exceptionally clear, making it an ideal place for photos and for carrying the kayaks across the narrowest part of the sandbar. It is both a beautiful and symbolic place – a passage from one bay to another.
First major stop – Azapiko Beach
We continue southwest until we reach Azapiko Beach – one of the longest and most peaceful sandy beaches in Sithonia.
The beach is wide, wild, and rarely crowded, with light-colored sand and gently sloping blue waters.
Its length and natural setting make it perfect for a longer break, swimming, and snorkeling. Here we will relax and enjoy the magnificent views of the open Aegean Sea.
Overnight stay – Camping IZA
After our break, we continue along the western coastline until we reach IZA Beach Camping – a place that combines the spirit of a wild beach with a unique artistic atmosphere.
The campsite is located in a spacious bay with fine sand, calm shallow waters, and a large area for camping. It has a distinctive bohemian atmosphere – wooden structures, evening lights, and soft music drifting from the beach bar.
The beach in front of IZA is one of the cleanest and most enjoyable swimming spots on the western coast of Sithonia. The water is so clear that fish can often be seen even without a diving mask. Despite being on a peninsula, the place feels like a small island bay.
Here we set up our tents, organize the camp, and have dinner at the campsite restaurant, while those who prefer may prepare their own food. The evening is peaceful and atmospheric, with views of the darkening sea and the lights of the beach bar.
Accommodation fees are €10 per person and €10 per tent per night, payable directly to the campsite management.

Rounding the Cape – The Wild Side of Sithonia
After our break, we head south, leaving the sheltered waters of Porto Koufo behind and entering the open Aegean Sea.
The southern cape of Sithonia is one of the most spectacular and memorable parts of the route – steep cliffs, massive granite formations, and deep blue waters stretching beneath our kayaks.
This is the most challenging section of the expedition:
– open-water paddling
– long stretches without opportunities to stop
– a powerful sense of the sea, open space, and continuous forward movement
Here, paddling becomes focused and rhythmic. The sea sets the pace, creating the feeling of a true sea expedition. Rounding the cape is an unforgettable experience – the moment when you truly feel that you have completed a major stage of the journey.
Only one short stop is planned at a wild beach halfway along the route.
End of the day – Kalamitsi Camping
After rounding the cape, we enter calmer waters once again and make our way towards Kalamitsi Camping – one of the most beautiful campsites in southern Sithonia.
It is located in a wide, sheltered bay with fine golden sand, calm shallow waters, and open views across the Aegean Sea.
The campsite offers a tavern, a beach bar, and all the facilities needed to recover after a long day on the water. After setting up camp, we enjoy dinner together or, if preferred, prepare our own meal. It is the well-earned finale to the most demanding day of the expedition.
Accommodation fee:
– €8 per person
– €8 per tent
The fees are paid directly to the campsite management.

From Camping Kalamitsi to Camping Armenistis
Day Four – Kalamitsi to Armenistis
– Iconic beaches, hidden coves, and the coastal rhythm of Sarti
After breakfast, we pack up the campsite, load all our luggage into the kayaks, and head north. Today we enter one of the most scenic and geologically diverse sections of eastern Sithonia – a coastline of wild granite formations, crystal-clear turquoise pools, and beaches that are best reached by sea.
First stop – Agridia Beach Bar
After a short paddle, we arrive at Agridia – a small, sheltered sandy beach nestled between granite rocks. The water here is exceptionally clear, while the shallow lagoon provides natural protection from the wind.
It is the perfect place for an early break and a refreshing swim.
Second stop – Sarti (Lunch and a Walk)
We continue towards Sarti, one of the liveliest villages on Sithonia.
We land on the wide sandy beach and enjoy a well-deserved break for lunch, coffee, and a stroll along the waterfront promenade.
Sarti is famous for its breathtaking views of Mount Athos, its long golden beach, and the vibrant atmosphere created by its small shops and charming cafés. Here everyone can enjoy the authentic spirit of southern Greece before we continue our journey.
Third stop – Camping Platanitsi
After Sarti, we head towards Camping Platanitsi for a short break.
This is one of the most beautiful beaches along the route – crystal-clear water, soft sand, and a pine forest forming a natural amphitheater of shade and coolness.
It is the perfect place to recharge before reaching the next two iconic beaches.
Passing by – Portokali Beach (Orange Beach)
We paddle past Portokali Beach without stopping.
This is one of the most famous beaches in Sithonia, renowned for its white granite boulders, milky-blue lagoons, and scenery reminiscent of the Caribbean.
We admire it from the water before continuing, saving our time for the next major stop.
Fourth stop – Paradise Beach (Kavourotrypes)
Paradise Beach, also known as Kavourotrypes, is a collection of small coves, rocky terraces, and crystal-clear natural pools shaped by centuries of erosion.
Here we take a longer break for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing in one of the most spectacular coastal settings in Halkidiki.
Final stop – Camping Armenistis (Dinner and Relaxation)
The day ends at Camping Armenistis – one of the largest, best-equipped, and most famous campsites on the peninsula.
Its wide beach, emerald waters, and magnificent views of Mount Athos provide the perfect atmosphere to conclude a long and rewarding day of adventure.
We will have dinner at the campsite tavern, while those who wish can also enjoy the campsite's facilities, including a restaurant, café, shop, and the refreshing shade of tall pine trees.
The day is filled with stunning beaches, remarkable granite formations, and unforgettable coastal scenery – a true marathon of natural beauty and unforgettable moments.
Accommodation fees are €8 per person and €7 per tent per night, payable directly to the campsite management.

Day Five – Wild Beaches, Turquoise Lagoons, and a Peaceful Finale in Vourvourou
After waking up at Camping Armenistis and a short preparation, we launch the kayaks for the final day and head north along one of the most scenic stretches of eastern Sithonia. Today's route is filled with wild beaches, shallow lagoons, and the distinctive granite formations of Vourvourou – the perfect natural setting for the finale of our sea adventure.
First stop – Robinson Beach
Our first break is at Robinson Beach – a secluded, wild beach that is difficult to reach by land but perfect for sea kayakers.
High cliffs protect the bay from the wind, while the crystal-clear water reveals the seabed several meters below the surface.
Here we will stop for swimming, snorkeling, and photos – a truly spectacular natural setting.
Second stop – Bahia Beach Bar
We continue towards Bahia Beach Bar – a stylish little beach with wooden terraces overlooking the water and a relaxed, chill-out atmosphere.
The water here is shallow, calm, and exceptionally clear.
We will enjoy a short break and the peaceful surroundings before continuing towards our next iconic destination.
Passing by – Karidi Beach
We paddle past Karidi Beach – one of the symbols of Vourvourou.
The beach is famous for its fine white sand, turquoise shallows, and granite “gateways” that form a natural lagoon.
We admire it from the water, enjoying one of the most breathtaking views in Sithonia.
Lunch is planned at Camping Rea, where we land for a short break and take one last look towards Diaporos Island and the islets of Vourvourou.
Final destination – Ormos Panagias
From Camping Rea, we continue to Ormos Panagias – the final destination of our journey.
Here, together, we:
– pack up the equipment,
– organize and clean all the gear,
– wash and load the kayaks onto the trailers.
Departure for Bulgaria
Around 17:00, we begin our journey back.
We will make a short stop in Nikiti – time for gyros, ice cream, and a walk along the seaside promenade.
Afterwards, we continue towards Sofia.
Expected arrival in front of Vasil Levski Stadium – around 24:00.
Paddling distance for the day: 20 km

Depending on the weather conditions, the route may be completed in the opposite direction without changing the overall character of the expedition.
