Five unforgettable days await you, filled with adrenaline, crystal-clear waters, and exotic landscapes accessible only by water! We will paddle along the magnetic coastline of the Ionian Islands, explore hidden sea caves, dive into emerald waters, and welcome magical sunsets painted in fiery orange and mystical purple.

Sivota – the pearl of the Ionian Sea – is a small coastal town located opposite the island of Corfu and just seven hours from Sofia. The area is famous for its crystal-clear waters, hidden lagoons, and unique sandbars which, during high and low tide, create the feeling that you are walking “on the water itself.”

The town carries Venetian architecture and a medieval imprint, while the surrounding area combines mountain ridges, centuries-old olive groves, and endless blue sea. This is a place whose charm captivates even the most demanding adventurers.

We will embark on an expedition-style paddling exploration to discover the hidden bays and wild beaches of Sivota – places accessible only by water and preserved in their authentic form.

One of the evenings will be dedicated to ancient Parga – a town where time seems to stand still. We will wander through narrow cobblestone streets lined with white houses and colorful balconies, breathe in the aromas of olives and Ionian spices, and end the day with dinner at a traditional taverna, while the sea quietly whispers its stories.

Program:

Arrival in Sivota and first touch of Ionian magic

Start of the journey:

Our kayak adventure begins at 00:00 in front of Vasil Levski Stadium in Sofia. At 00:30 we depart towards Sivota, leaving the night behind us and heading south to the Ionian Sea.

Our first short stop is in Kresna, where we stock up on food and water.

After the overnight journey, around 09:00, we arrive in Sivota – a small coastal town that welcomes us with turquoise tones, a quiet harbor, and the first sun reflections over the islands.

Breakfast and preparation:

The day starts with a cup of aromatic coffee and a light breakfast in the center of Sivota, while the fresh sea air reminds us how close the adventure is. At the same time, we buy fresh fish from the fish shop – it will be the foundation of our evening meal.

After that, we head to Sofas Camping, located on the beautiful sandy beach of the same name.

Accommodation and paddling preparation:

We unload the equipment and kayaks and set up our camp. After a short rest, we gather for a briefing and equipment distribution.

The group is divided into two levels – beginners and advanced.

The beginners start the day with an introductory training – about one hour dedicated to basic techniques, safety, and confident movement in the kayak.

The advanced paddlers head along the coastline to the right of the campsite, where they work on improving technique and adapting to the conditions.

After the training is completed, the beginner group joins the advanced group at one of the beaches selected for a break.

Before taking a longer pause, we will pass by an impressive rock arch, where we will take photos, and then stop at a small beach with a taverna to recharge and rest.

Sunset and dinner:

Shortly before sunset, we return to the campsite. We light the barbecue and prepare a delicious dinner with the fresh fish from the morning market.

The evening passes in pleasant conversations by the sea, under the starry Ionian sky and the gentle presence of the waves.

Paddling distance for the day: approximately 8 km, with plenty of time for rest, swimming, and snorkeling.

Difficulty level according to distance: 2 out of 4.

Morning start and preparation

The day begins with fresh coffee and breakfast while we enjoy the first sunrays and the calm atmosphere of the campsite. We prepare sandwiches for the day, as an epic island adventure awaits us among some of the most impressive spots of the Ionian Sea, and there will be no tavernas along the route.

After launching the kayaks, we set course toward the island group near Sivota. Our paddling takes us through secluded bays, azure waters, and fairytale beaches accessible only by boat. Along the way, we stop for lunch and rest on a sandy beach, with opportunities for swimming and snorkeling. After that, we explore Papanikolis Cave – once used as a submarine hideout, and today a place where sunlight creates magical reflections on the water.

Our second break is at the famous “Blue Lagoon” beach – a place that will leave you breathless, where the water shines in electric blue and fully lives up to its name. This is a perfect spot for diving: underwater rock formations shelter rich marine life, and underwater visibility is impressive.

Dinner and well-deserved rest

After the long day filled with paddling and sea adventures, we return to the campsite. We have two options:

– dinner at a cozy taverna
or
– a barbecue under the stars, to end the day in good company and great spirits.

Paddling distance for the day: 16 km

Difficulty level according to distance: 3 out of 4 – a moderately challenging day with extended paddling and many exciting stops.

Ready for more adventures?
Tomorrow, a new dose of adrenaline and beauty awaits us! ?

Island paths and beaches where you can “walk on water”

Good morning – time for more discoveries!

Two days are not enough to reveal all the hidden gems around Sivota, so today we once again head toward the island group – this time with a new route and even more exciting stops.

Paddling toward Bella Vraka – the beach that connects island and mainland

Our first stop is Bella Vraka – one of the most iconic beaches in the area, located between Mourtemeno Island and the mainland.

Here we will have time to rest our paddles, enjoy the calm of the sea, and refresh ourselves with a drink from the nearby bar.

And for the most curious ones – you can cross the shallow sandy strip that connects the mainland with the island. The feeling is unique – as if you are walking on water!

Walk and lunch in Sivota

After the break, we continue paddling toward the village of Sivota itself.

Here we will have time for a relaxed walk along the waterfront, the small shops, and the colorful streets of the town.

We will end our stay with lunch at a traditional taverna, where we will enjoy fresh seafood, authentic Greek cuisine, and a glass of cold ouzo.

Free evening – barbecue and cozy time at the campsite

After another day full of adventures, we return back to the campsite. A free evening awaits you in the pleasant atmosphere by the shore.

The barbecue is once again available for everyone who wishes to end the day with a delicious homemade dinner under the starry sky.

Others can enjoy dinner at the campsite taverna.

Paddling distance for the day: 14 km

Difficulty level according to distance: 3 out of 4 – a moderate day with pleasant paddling and time for rest and walking.

? Ready for more? Tomorrow we continue with new adventures!

Among the rocky labyrinths of Sivota and a magical evening in Parga

Today we take a new route, this time to the left of the campsite, where a true test of kayaking skills awaits us, along with even more hidden coves and wild beaches.

Maneuvering training among rock formations

After three days on the water, it is time to see how well paddling and maneuvering techniques have been mastered. We will navigate through natural sea labyrinths, weaving between majestic rock formations sculpted by wind and waves over the centuries.

Stops at wild beaches – relaxation and lunch in nature

Along the route, we will stop at secluded beaches inaccessible by land, where we will have the opportunity to rest, swim, and enjoy the pure beauty of the Ionian Sea. Lunch will be in nature, on one of these hidden beaches.

Evening in magical Parga – organized transfer by vans

After the sea adventures, we prepare for an organized evening visit to Parga, which we will reach by vans. Parga enchants with its Venetian architecture, cobblestone streets, and panoramic views of the Ionian Sea. We will take time for a walk through the small shops and along the seaside promenade, and the evening will end in a traditional taverna with fresh seafood, ouzo, and local specialties.

Paddling distance for the day: 14 km, but with many technical elements.

Difficulty level according to distance: 3 out of 4 – a balanced day between challenge and enjoyment.

Final day – short paddling session and practical training

We gather at the boats at 09:00. This is our final day and it is dedicated to a short, focused paddling session and practical training in the bay of the campsite and to the left, where the more technical sections are located. We continue to build on the most important sea kayaking techniques.

Today’s training includes:

Basics and boat control

✅ proper entering and exiting the kayak from the shore and in shallow water;

✅ efficient forward and backward paddling with correct body position;

✅ stopping techniques and controlled speed reduction;

✅ course correction and direction changes.

Maneuvering and stability

✅ sideways paddling (draw stroke);

✅ maintaining stability using low brace and high brace;

✅ basic techniques for preventing capsizing.

Rescue techniques

✅ self-rescue – re-entering the kayak after capsizing;

✅ assisted rescue – support between two kayakers.

The training is carried out mainly on single sea kayaks, so that each technique can be practiced realistically, with proper dynamics and safety.

Those who prefer not to take part in the practical exercises may observe from a kayak or remain on the beach.

Wrap-up, preparation, and departure

At 11:00 we return to the campsite. Together we clean the equipment, gather and organize the gear, wash the kayaks, and load them onto the trailers.

Around 15:00 we depart back to Bulgaria.

Expected arrival in Sofia in front of “Vasil Levski” National Stadium – around 23:00.

How to get to Sofas Campsite near Sivota?

🌊 Kayak Program Difficulty Classification

To make things clear for every participant, our programs are categorized as follows:

🔹 Intro – Introduction to Kayaking (1 of 4)

Programs held on lakes, reservoirs, and other so-called calm waters. Suitable for people with no prior experience who want to take their first steps in kayaking and feel the boat and movement on water in a fully controlled environment.

🔹 Beginners (2 of 4)

Programs for people with little or initial experience. A high level of physical endurance is not required, but participants should be able to spend at least one hour in the kayak. The focus is on adapting to the sea, basic technique, and building confidence on the water.

🔹 Intermediate (3 of 4)

Good physical endurance and basic experience in sea kayaking are required. Participants should be able to paddle for more than one hour without stopping, including in conditions with wind up to 3 bft. These programs include longer crossings and more dynamic conditions.

🔹 Advanced (4 of 4)

Programs for paddlers with a high level of personal paddling skills. Solid boat control, confidence in varied sea conditions, and the ability to handle challenges of open water independently are expected.

🌊 Summary

The difficulty level of sea kayak trips is a dynamic assessment. It depends on the sea, the route, and the people in the group. A well-planned route is not simply “easy” or “hard,” but appropriate for the specific experience and the specific participants.

🚣‍♂️ Dopamine Team – where difficulty is not a barrier, but part of the experience.

🌊 How the Difficulty Level of a Sea Kayak Trip Is Determined

The difficulty of a sea kayak trip is not defined only by the distance covered. It is a complex evaluation that combines natural, technical, and human factors. This combination is what makes each route unique and requires professional planning.

When we assess the difficulty of kayak programs, we take into account water conditions, paddling duration, required skills, and the level of participant self-reliance.

1. Distance and Daily Load

Distance remains a basic indicator, but it is always considered in context. A short route in open sea can be significantly more demanding than a long paddle along a sheltered coastline. Consecutive days of paddling are also important, as accumulated fatigue greatly affects overall difficulty.

2. Sea Conditions

This is the key factor in sea kayaking. Wind strength and direction, wave height and period, as well as currents and reflections from rocky shores are all evaluated. The same distance in calm water versus side wind and swell can be a completely different experience.

3. Route Type

Routes vary greatly in character – from sheltered coastal sections, through open crossings between capes and islands, to long stretches without access to shore. The longer a section is exposed to open sea, the higher the difficulty.

4. Technical Requirements

Difficulty increases when a route requires precise kayak control in waves, handling side and head winds, stability in surf, and safe landings on different types of shoreline. Here the challenge goes beyond physical endurance and into real paddling skills.

5. Navigation and Decision-Making

More complex trips involve coastal navigation, planning around weather windows, and making decisions in real time. Navigation adds mental load and requires experience, focus, and calm judgment.

6. Self-Reliance and Logistics

The farther a route is from civilization, the higher the difficulty. Trips with limited beach access, no easy evacuation, and the need for independent management of equipment and resources require serious preparation.
