The Tyulenovo – Cape Kaliakra route is one of the finest sea kayaking destinations in Bulgaria. The coastline is deeply indented, the cliffs are high and rugged, and the sea is remarkably clear.
Paddling here is very different from the southern Black Sea coast – more technical, more dramatic, and far more immersive. Every day reveals new formations: sea caves, narrow passages, natural stone arches, and secluded bays that simply cannot be seen from land.
Accommodation is at the campsite in Tyulenovo, while those who prefer may stay in a guest house or hotel nearby. The daily program is adapted to the weather and sea conditions to ensure we make the most of every day on the water.
Program:
Arrival and First Contact with the Sea
We meet at 05:30 in front of Vasil Levski Stadium, with departure from Sofia at 06:00.
We arrive in the Tyulenovo area around midday. After checking in, we prepare our equipment for the adventure ahead.
Following the safety briefing, we head out onto the water for an introductory paddle in the area – our first contact with the sea, the kayaks, and the local coastline.
We paddle along characteristic cliff formations, explore small sea caves, and navigate calm sections that are ideal for adapting to the conditions and becoming comfortable on the water.
The evening is free – enjoy a barbecue at the campsite or dinner at one of the local seafood restaurants.
The Sea Caves and Natural Arches of Tyulenovo
After breakfast, we launch the kayaks and set off along the dramatic cliffs of Tyulenovo – one of the most spectacular sections of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
The route takes us past impressive sea caves, natural stone arches, and narrow rocky passages.
We will admire the famous Tyulenovo Cliffs, the old sea pier, and the lighthouse from the unique perspective that only the sea can offer.
Several breaks are planned for swimming, snorkeling, and photography.
Lunch will be in the village of Tyulenovo, where we will enjoy freshly prepared seafood.
The afternoon is free for relaxation and personal activities.
Kamen Bryag, Yaylata, Rusalka, and Bolata Bay
The most scenic day of the adventure.
We paddle beneath the towering cliffs of Kamen Bryag – a rugged and dramatic section of coastline that reveals the true character of Bulgaria's northern Black Sea coast.
We continue along the coastline of Yaylata – an area renowned for its unique landscape and archaeological significance.
We take a break near Rusalka – a series of sheltered coves with crystal-clear water.
The route then leads us past impressive sea caves before finishing at Bolata Bay – one of the most beautiful bays in Bulgaria, surrounded by red cliffs and turquoise waters.
In the afternoon, we pack up the kayaks and explore some of the area's remarkable landmarks on foot.
Dinner in the local area.
Cape Kaliakra and the Grand Finale
The final day is shorter and more relaxed.
If weather and sea conditions allow, we paddle around Cape Kaliakra – the iconic landmark of Bulgaria's northern Black Sea coast.
The dramatic red cliffs, steep headlands, and breathtaking panoramic views make this a truly unforgettable finale.
We stop for a break at the secluded Zelenka Bay.
Around midday, we conclude the kayaking program and begin our journey back to Sofia.
Optional visit to Cape Kaliakra from the top, followed by lunch.
