The island of Paxos has an area of about 30 sq. km. and is located south of the island of Corfu. According to ancient Greek myths and legends, Paxos is a fragment of the much larger island of Corfu.

Its creation is associated with the desire of the sea god Poseidon to create an isolated and peaceful place for his wife Amphitrite. To this end, he struck with the trident the southern tip of the island of Corfu, where Cape Cabos stands today. The medieval fortress overlooking the town, built in the 15th century by the Venetians during their occupation of Parga, is a reminder of past grandeur and battles and is a natural end to the old part of the town, which begins just behind the promenade, and the sunset here is magical.
