The island of Paxos has an area of about 30 sq. km. and is located south of the island of Corfu. According to ancient Greek myths and legends, Paxos is a fragment of the much larger island of Corfu.

Its creation is associated with the desire of the sea god Poseidon to create an isolated and peaceful place for his wife Amphitrite. To this end, he struck with the trident the southern tip of the island of Corfu, where Cape Cabos stands today. From the force of the blow, a whole new island group, later called Paxi, was separated from Cabos and scattered 7 km to the south. Today the largest islands in the group are Paxos and Antipaxos.

Paxos is traditionally considered one of the most attractive Greek islands. The pristine nature and crystal clear sea waters attract many tourists. The main attraction of the island are the underwater labyrinths and the Blue Caves located in its western coast. In addition to these, there are also many bizarre rock formations and phenomena, such as the White Cliffs, the Hideout of Amphitrite, the Dragon's Claws, the Steps of Poseidon, the Thunder of Zeus, the Mouse Holes, etc.

The medieval fortress overlooking the town, built in the 15th century by the Venetians during their occupation of Parga, is a reminder of past grandeur and battles and is a natural end to the old part of the town, which begins just behind the promenade, and the sunset here is magical.
