Situated amphitheatrically above the sea, Parga is a unique place combining picturesque mountains and crystal clear waters.
Its landscapes resemble those of an island, the Venetian influence can be felt from every corner and if you look at it from above you will be overwhelmed by the feeling of being in Monaco. Parga has a rich history.

The medieval fortress overlooking the town, built in the 15th century by the Venetians during their occupation of Parga, is a reminder of past grandeur and battles and is a natural end to the old part of the town, which starts just behind the promenade, and the sunset here is magical.

The varied topography of the area provoked us to do a combined event consisting of two days of kayaking and two days of mountain biking.

We will provide a trailer to transport the bikes, and the program is of the adventure type with overnight camping or hotel accommodation. It is suitable for beginners, intermediate and advanced riders and people practicing cross country style mountain biking.

Both days of the cycling adventure will be led by a qualified guide.

Program:

The meeting in front of Vasil Levski Stadium is at 22:00 and at 22:30 departure from Sofia.

Arrival around 08:00 in Parga. We stop for coffee and breakfast and buy fish from the local fish market, then head to Valtos Camping, which is located on the sandy beach of the same name. We settle in and after a short break we head off for a briefing and introductory training for beginners in the bay, after which we will explore the coastline to the right of the campsite. The first break will be on a wild beach from which a narrow path leads to a monastery carved into the cliffs, and the second will be on a wide sandy beach where we will have lunch. The tavern is on a terrace about 100 meters above sea level and the view covers the entire bay. In the afternoon we paddle back to the campsite. For the evening we plan a free program. We will have dinner at the campsite, and those who wish can head along the coastal path to Parga.

The paddle for the day is 13 km and is filled with scenic rock formations to circumnavigate.

Difficulty level relative to distance 2 out of 4.

Parga - Elina Bay - Parga On our first cycling day we will do a longer ride to visit the larger beach of Elina Bay. We'll start from the familiar place of Valtos (Parga) beach and climb up a steep 2.5 km long tarmac road to the neighbouring village of Antossa. There are cafes, bakeries, shops, and tavernas, so we'll load something in our backpacks for the longer ride. From Antusa we continue another 3 km. on the main asphalt road to the upper village of Agia. Then we leave the tarmac and ride on a beautiful mountain ridge rising above the seashore. For about 10 kilometres we drive along the ridge on a wide Jagara-style forest road, dotted with many fragrant plants. We stop at every panorama that opens up because it is highly impressive. And finally we descend a short way down a steep asphalt road that makes several sharper turns and drops us near the fabulous Elina Beach. The beach has a great view, a wide beach and a great view of the sea and the surrounding small islands near Sivota. We planned to stay at this place for a few hours for beach, lunch and hydration with various drinks. At the end of the day, we take the tarmac road back to Valtos Bay where we continue with an evening beach and seafood.

The route for today is 40km long with 1000m of positive gradient and as much negative gradient.

In the evening we head to Parga to explore the fortress, have dinner and listen to live music.

We are on kayaks again. After breakfast and coffee, and making sandwiches for the day, we put the kayaks in the water and head left out of the campground to Aphrodite's Cave, which is one of the area's landmarks. We'll paddle slowly along the coast and enjoy the scenery. We will relax on the sandy beaches and swim in the crystal clear sea waters. After exploring the cave, we will moor at Lichnos Beach for rest and lunch. There are three tavernas on the beach. After lunch we will head back, enter the bay of Parga and explore the city from the water.

In the evening we head back to Parga to have dinner and listen to live music.

The paddle for the day is 14 km, but in this adventure the distance is not important, because all the time you maneuver between islets, rocks, crevices, arches and caves.

Difficulty level relative to distance is 2 out of 4.

On our second cycling day we will start from the port of Valtos beach. We head sharply along the dirt road behind the yachts and rise above the water of the Ionian Sea. We continue along a wide dirt road rising panoramically above the sea, stopping frequently to take in the spectacular views. With a few not very long climbs and descents and a distance of about 7 km. we reach the impressive sandy beach of Sarakiniko. Tucked between two mountain hills, with crystal clear water, the beach is a great place for a long rest, a beer and lunch. After lunch, we continue with a 6km climb up a tarmac road and leave the tarmac at a high point just before S. Agia. We continue along the ridge with dirt and asphalt road and after a few kilometers (3-4) we reach the famous Ali Pasha Fortress. From the walls of the fortress we have impressive views of the Valtos Bay, the harbour and the ships and yachts that inhabit it. After enjoying the panoramas, we put on our knee pads and helmets and descend a short but informative trail to reach with. Antusa, where we can stay at a tavern, pastry shop and bar. At the end of the day we descend 2.5km for an evening beach and rest in Valtos Bay.

Total route - 21km. 800m. positive
850m. negative.

At 14.00 we return to the campsite and all together we collect the equipment and around 16.00 we leave back to Bulgaria. Expected arrival in front of Vasil Levski Stadium, Sofia is at 00.00.

Note: The organisers reserve the right to change the programme depending on weather conditions in order to maximise the safety of participants.

We will also provide a trailer to transport the bikes.

Space for luggage is limited. You can bring a backpack, pack, tent and food.

During the trip from Sofia to Greece, we will have a refrigerator in the van in which we can stow perishables. Our first stop is at a 24-hour convenience store in Kresna where we can buy water and groceries. The campsite usually has fridges in the communal kitchens.
